About Us

About US
Since 1979, the Chilliwack Academy of Music has provided high quality music programs designed for all ages and diverse abilities.

The Chilliwack Academy of Music offers private instruction for many instruments, in addition to group classes and ensembles led by experienced faculty. Operating as a not-for-profit charitable society, the Academy directly serves a variety of students, and is a proud member of the B.C. Association of Community Music Schools.

Our History

Our Story

The Chilliwack Academy of Music began in rented spaces before purchasing and operating from a heritage home on First Avenue in 1992. Through the generosity of our community and the careful stewardship of our organization, CAM continued to grow and evolve to meet the musical needs of Chilliwack.

In 2010, CAM became a founding Core Partner of the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. As part of this exciting community initiative, the Academy invested in the creation of a permanent home for arts and culture in Chilliwack by contributing the proceeds from the sale of our heritage home toward the development of the Cultural Centre.

Today, our presence as a Core Partner reflects our longstanding commitment to music education and our belief that the arts are essential to a thriving community.

Our Home at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre

The Chilliwack Cultural Centre was built through a decade-long, community-driven effort to create a permanent home for artistic excellence, creative learning, and cultural connection in Chilliwack.

As one of the Centre's founding Core Partners, CAM helps shape the vibrant artistic community that exists within the building alongside other Core Partners and resident companies. Together, we contribute to a shared vision that celebrates music, theatre, visual arts, and lifelong learning.

The Academy oversees:

  • 18 private lesson studios
  • 3 classrooms and group teaching spaces
  • Access to the 600-seat Main Theatre
  • Access to the 200-seat Rotary Hall
  • Performance and recital opportunities throughout the year

Being located within the Cultural Centre allows our students and faculty to learn, teach, and perform in one of British Columbia's premier arts facilities.

Our Community

At CAM, music education is about more than learning an instrument. We believe music has the power to inspire confidence, foster creativity, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen communities.

Our faculty are at the heart of that mission. Every lesson taught, every performance presented, and every student encouraged contributes to a vibrant and inclusive musical community that has been growing for more than four decades.

We are proud to welcome you as part of that story.

Best Value for Price

We are nonprofit, which means significantly more of your tuition goes directly to your teacher, less to pay administration, and none to profit. The result is the best value at a competitive price.

Financial Awards

As part of our initiative to provide accessible music education, we administer financial scholarships each year for both our own CAM students to help with the cost of lessons, as well as students preparing to study music at a post secondary institution.

Inclusion & Accessibility

We have specialized instructors for many styles of music, from classical to modern pop. We welcome students of all ages and levels of prior training; our instructors can accommodate diverse needs and abilities.

Performance Opportunities

With a variety of group and solo performing opportunities, the Academy provides performance events for all students, no matter their experience level or individual goals.

Groups

Taking group classes is beneficial wherever you are in your musical journey. Whether you are seeking an introduction to music, an additional playing opportunity, or want to meet new friends, be sure to check out our group programs.

Quality Instructors

All of our instructors have extensive qualification in their respective areas of expertise. Students can ensure they will receive positive, high quality instruction built on our vision of respect, support, and growth.
