About Our Education

Since 1979, the Chilliwack Academy of Music has provided high quality music instruction and programming in all styles, for students of all ages and abilities living in Chilliwack and the surrounding communities. Expert instruction is offered on a variety of instruments as well as through group classes and performing ensembles led by highly trained and experienced faculty. Operating as a not-for-profit charitable society, the Academy directly serves 500 students a year from newborns to seniors and is a proud member of the B.C. Association of Community Music Schools.

In the early days the Academy operated out of rented premises. In 1992, it purchased a heritage house on First Avenue, a move that was achieved through prudent management and generous support from governments, charitable organizations and local companies and individuals.

In September 2010, the Chilliwack Academy of Music relocated to the $22-million city-owned Chilliwack Cultural Centre. The Academy now oversees 21 music instruction rooms including 18 private lesson studios, and 3 classrooms. In addition, the Academy has access to the 600-seat main theatre and the 200-seat Rotary Hall for recitals and performances. The Academy's involvement as a Core Partner in the new Cultural Centre allows it to meet the growing demands of the community for high quality music instruction and programming.

Best Value for Price

We are nonprofit, which means significantly more of your tuition goes directly to your teacher, less to pay administration, and none to profit. The result is the best value at a competitive price.

Financial Awards & Assistance

Quality instruction is a financial investment no matter what. To help with the cost, we administer scholarship and bursary funds each spring to many of our students. Applications are due April 1.

Inclusion & Accessibility

We have specialized instructors for many styles of music (both classical and popular). We welcome students of all ages or levels of prior training, and can accommodate many special needs.

Performance Opportunities

Whether personal fulfillment or pre-professional training is your goal, the Academy gives students access to wonderful group and solo performing opportunities not available elsewhere.

Groups

Learning in a group is both a great opportunity to meet new friends, as well as an incredible benefit to private lessons. They are also an excellent introduction to music, if private instruction is not feasible. All students are also encouraged to attend group classes to enrich their musical experience through collaboration with others.

Quality Instructors

All our instructors are at least ARCT level; many have bachelour’s or even master’s degrees in their instrument. A quality teacher is a student’s best choice for positive experiences and results.
